Charlie Zamastil

Director Charlie Zamastil was first introduced to cycling as a PhD candidate in philosophy while attending Temple University in Philadelphia. Enamored of the sport and the collegiate scene, Zamastil quickly rose through the ranks, earning his coaching license in 2008 and becoming director of performance services at Breakaway Bikes, a bicycle shop with an indoor training center serving hundreds of athletes. After founding and racing for the 160over90/Breakaway team in 2011, Zamastil moved to Wichita Falls in 2012 to become director of the MSU Cycling Team.

Since then, over a hundred cyclists from two dozen different countries and nearly every US state have competed for MSU. Zamastil has continued MSU’s winning traditions, extending the streak of consecutive conference championships to 14. He has also greatly expanded on the variety of disciplines in which MSU competes: where once MSU was known as a track and road only school, since 2013, MSU has competed in all 5 disciplines of the collegiate cycling national championships, landing on the podium in road, track, and BMX, and finishing inside the top 20 at each MTB and cyclocross national championship. With Zamastil at the helm, the team has brought home the hardware, including 11 national titles and over a hundred top-5 finishes.

When he is not on his bike with the team, Zamastil enjoys woodworking, yardwork, and spending time with his family, especially his 4 4-legged children.
