Welcome to the Voices Literature and Arts Magazine Website.
Voices is a regional arts and literary journal produced and published annually by students and faculty at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas. Voices publishes original works of fiction, creative non-fiction, poetry, and art. Voices seeks to compile ambitious and imaginative work from high school, undergraduate, and graduate students in Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Texas. We are looking for original creative pieces that paint with colors unimagined, speak with compelling voices, and render characters with dimension and complexity.
For our genres, the limitations are as follows:
Fiction-Short Stories up to 3000 words
We are also interested in Flash Fiction (aka One Shots) <1000 words
Creative Nonfiction- Essays up to 3000 words
We are also interested in flash nonfiction <1000 words
Poetry- Send up to 4 to 5 poems (50-line maximum for each poem)
Art- All artwork should be submitted as a .jpg file with 300 dpi
The Process: Submissions are currently open and will close on December 8, just before winter break. During the winter break, the editors will review all submissions and determine which submissions to publish. All submissions are read blind, and notices of acceptance or rejection will be emailed in early spring. During the spring semester, the editors design the magazine and publish it before the end of the term. Copies of the magazine are free for all Midwestern State University students. Contributors from other schools and universities will also receive a free copy via the U.S. postal service. Visit our Submission page for more details and a link to our online submission form.
